Essay on a journey by train

A Journey by Train Essay; Deep in our hearts, we always feel an irresistible urge to enjoy some carefree moments leaving the dean and bustle of a modern hectic life. But busy modern life would hardly let us quit our day to day responsibilities. So, whenever we get an opportunity, our mind starts dancing in joy like a peacock. Fortunately, I had a chance to enjoy some carefree hours on a train journey from Chittagong to Sylhet in the last summer vacation along with some of my dear friends.

“What’s this life full of care
If you’ve no time to stand and stare!”

A train journey has always been a dreamy pleasure for me. Since my childhood, I always cherished a desire to enjoy a journey by train because the rhythmic sound of the train used to mesmerize me to a great deal. Furthermore, the following words of an English poet also created a kind of fascination for the journey by train

“I love the wet trains
Passing through the fields
Long caravans of all the country yields.”

I had been planning for the journey for a long time. My Psyche started leaping in excitement. The boon of sleep hardly touched my eyes the previous night as the journey was supposed to be started early in the morning. Naturally, I left the bed at the cockcrow and started preparing myself. Soon I received calls from my friends. I realized that all of them we sharing the same feelings.

Anyway, l reached the station in time and found that some of my friends have already been there Without wasting time, we got into the train. And the train started moving slowly on time. But soon it started moving at a great speed. The train was moving ahead, leaving behind the trees, horses and small shops on either side. It reminded me of the poet’s utterances:

Not only the houses and trees
But also the rivers
The train moved forward.
Others ran reverse”

While the train was moving we enjoyed the beauty of the green fields and countryside. It was really very delightful to see the green beauties of nature. While crossing the Sitakunda area the beauty of the hills and the lush green surroundings charmed us much. And I felt like singing like the English poet Dorothy Parker.

“The hills, beneath the roving sun,
From green to purple pass,
And little, trilling breezes run
Their fingers through the grass.”

The hills and green countyside charmed us no doubt. But we all were eagerly waiting for our journey across the river Meghna. It was of a great charm to us. One of my friends uttered Robert Wadsworth Lawry’s words:

“Soon we'll reach the shining river,
Soon our pilgrimage will cease,
Soon our happy hearts will quiver
With the melody of peace.”

Anyway, it was almost dark when we reached the destination. I was getting down in a hurry. When I put my hand into the pocket, I startled up to see my pocket had been picked and my wallet had been no more. I reached home in a sad mood. But there is no room for doubt that the journey was more than pleasing to me.

The entire journey was full of excitement and pleasure. It will remain evergreen in the dominion of my sweet memories. But I never wish to dwell in the ivory tower of imagination. Because, I also believe like the poet :

I slept and dreamt that life was beauty
I woke and found that life was duty.
