Dengue Essay/Composition; Dengue is an acute infectious disease which is caused by a flavivirus. It is one of the threatening diseases in the world. More than 50-100 million people get infected by dengue fever each year.

Dengue fever is a viral fever. It is caused by the dengue virus. The main vector of the dengue virus is Aedes mosquitoes. Female Aedes mosquitoes get infected with dengue when it bites a person infected with the dengue virus in his blood. When these female Aedes mosquitoes, which are a carrier of dengue, bite someone this virus spreads to that person. Blood transfusion and organ donation from an infected person can spread the dengue virus. If a pregnant mother carries this virus, the fetus is at risk of getting infected by it. But the dengue virus can't spread directly from person to person.

Most people who get infected by dengue fever have no symptoms. Symptoms are seen between 3 to 14 days after infected with the virus. This time is the incubation period of the dengue virus. Dengue fever involves severe pain in the bones. This is why it is also known as ‘break-bone fever’. Some symptoms of dengue are high fever, severe headaches, vomiting, pain behind the eyes, severe joint and muscle pain fatigue, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, mild bleeding, etc.

In critical condition, plasma leaks from small vessels can also be seen. In conditions like hemorrhagic fever and shock syndrome, the patient can die if he/she is not gotten any medical treatment. Other complications of dengue fever are a neurological disorder, altered mental status, infection of the heart or sudden liver failure, etc.

There is no specific treatment of dengue. But a patient of dengue fever should drink more clean water with salt as dehydration occurs in dengue. Painkillers can relieve pain and fever. As there is no vaccine of dengue virus so the best way to prevent it is self-protection. To prevent dengue virus we should wear clothes that fully cover our skin. Closed-toe shoes are suggested instead of sandals. We can use bug spray. We should use mosquito netting when they are resting. We need to clean empty flower pots, empty water bowls, and dustbins. Using mosquito repellents can be helpful. Try to close the windows and doors from dawn to dusk. And always should sleep under a mosquito net.

Dengue is now one of the most important tropical diseases. While it doesn't kill that many people, it has tremendous economic and social impact.
